Somalia’s Role in Qatari Diplomatic Crisis

Somalia air space becomes manna from heaven to Qatar flights as major Gulf States close air and sea services to Qatar in a move alleging its close ties with terrorists.

Before the announcement of the diplomatic row and subsequent sever of ties, Qatari flights flew over Somalia was very few sometimes one or two per day as mentioned by a Somali civil aviation official who requested to remain anonymous. More than fifteen flights have been recorded by Qatari Airways since the crisis started.

The Gulf States that cut diplomatic ties with Qatar include Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. Later they were joined by Yemen and Libya.

Qatar was accused of aiding terrorists in the region, an allegation it denied.
