Somaliland and Puntland exchange statements on the recent fight along their borders

Somaliland and Punltand today released statements regarding the latest military confrontation between the two regions in Tukaraq location which lies alongside their border.

Somaliland minister of information Abdirahman Abdullahi Guri-Barwaqo accused the Somali federal government on actions that can trigger hostilities inside Somaliland.

He also pointed out the illegality of the recent by a federal minister of planning and international corporation Jamal Hassan Mohamed who visited Badhan town in Sanaag region a week ago.

Minister Guri-Barwaqo noted the determination of the Somaliland soldiers not to cross over the borders of their neigbouring countries but always vigilant to defend their region.

He appealed to the countries in the region and the international community to keep abreast of what he termed as security mobilization along their border by the Somali government.

On the other hand, Puntland state released an official statement on the matter terming the action by Somaliland as obstructing the visit of federal president Farmaajo in their state.

In their statement, Puntland state indicated their intention of responding to the situation calling on the local people to defend their land.

Similarly Puntland called on the federal Somali government, neighbouring countries and the international community that they will not shoulder responsibilities regarding the aftermath of their actions to defend their land.

Somaliland military forces today attacked Tukaraq location administered by Puntland state taking over the area.

No casualties have been announced so far by the two parties.
