Woman killed by soldier in Hargeisa in unclear circumstances

GOOBJOOG NEWS/HARGEISA: A female employee attached to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Somaliland administration was last night killed by a police officer in unclear circumstances in the region’s capital, Hargeisa.

Najma Abdullahi Haykal was shot dead by an officer manning the Hargeisa City Court after an argument ensued between the two, resulting in the shooting of the woman by the officer at close range.

Witnesses said that the deceased had parked her car near the Hargeisa City Court, where a brief altercation occurred between the two, prompting the soldier to draw his gun, fatally shooting the unharmed civil servant.

It is still unclear why the officer killed the woman, but Somaliland police managed to apprehend the culprit who had attempted to escape after committing the criminal act and detained him at the nearest police station for further questioning.
