Somaliland Electoral Commission’s chair resigns few months to the polls

Storyline:National News

GOOBJOOG NEWS|HARGEISA: The chairman of the Somaliland Electoral Commission, Abdirashid Mohamud Riyoraac, has resigned from his post.

Riyoraac said the reason for his resignation was due to some wrangles within the Somaliland Electoral Commission, which he said had continued to rear its ugly head several times and affected the smooth running of the commission.

Riyoraac ruled out any interference from the Somaliland President Muse Bihi, as sources had earlier claimed, but rather, a long-running dispute within the commission had forced him to bow out.

The resignation of the Somaliland Electoral Commission’s chair comes barely five months before the region’s general election scheduled for November 13, 2022.
