Somaliland ministry of veterinary and fishery today announced the cancellation of fishing licenses of some fishing companies in the Gulf Aden waters located in the self breakaway region after they transgressed against the local law of fishing.

Addressing the region’s parliament today, Minister Hassan Mohamed Gadafi said the fishing companies started harvesting sharks, a forbidden fish as stipulated in the license provided to them.

He informed Golaha Guurtida (Council of Elders) the halting of 3 types of fish in the Gulf Waters by Somaliland authority which includes their commercialization and export purposes.

He categorically stated the ministry halted the fishing of these particular species and not the whole fishing business.

He also stated that the export fish must be the ones that have refrigerated and not live ones.
