Somaliland’s House of Elders affirms elections will be held in 2017

House of elders of the breakaway Somaliland has rejected Somaliland’s president Ahmed Mohamud Silanyo’s proposal to review the date set for the general elections of Somalial and urged to compliant with the agreement of the parties which was to hold elections in 2016.

After a meeting which lasted for hours, the house rejected request, saying that the law should be abided by everyone.

The acting chairman of the house, Saeed Jama’a Ali has put into vote in the house majority of the elder have turned down the president’s request.

” The elders affirmed that there would be no change, the elections will be held as per schedulled” he said.
Somali self-declared state of Somaliland has scheduled to hold its presidential elections on 2017 which president Ahmed requested to be changed.
The election was previously set to be held in this year but due to some reasons the commission decided to put off elections.
Somaliland, a breakaway region in northern Somalia has declared a unilateral independence from the rest of Somalia in 1991, however, its efforts for an international recognition hasn’t so far accomplished success.
