Speeding car hits eleven people and kills five in Mogadishu

At least five people were on Friday evening killed and six others badly injured by a car which veered off the road in northern Mogadishu.

The driver of the vehicle, who was en route  from Dares Salaam Neighbourhood has lost control of the vehicle and  ploughed into the eleven people, including boys playing football.

The driver who was also seriously injured was later taken to hospital by  ambulance together with the injured.

Witnesses said some of the victims were trapped under the car but were quickly pulled out by Good Samaritans.

“The driver was driving at high speed and he tried to stop the car but the brakes either failed or he was unable to control the vehicle and it (ploughed) into some people, killing five and leaving some badly injured,” said an agitated member of the public.

“Two of the injured are in a critical condition, two others are stable while another one were slightly injured,”  said a doctor who is operating at Odweyne hospital where the injuries were taken.
