Police are pursuing suspected al-Shabaab members who attacked a Lamu-bound bus on Saturday at about 3pm.

The GSU, KDF and Regular Police have been deployed to the area in a combined effort to pursue the four Al-shabab who are said to have shot severally at the Tawakal bus which was headed to Lamu but no one was injured during the incident.

According to multiple sources, the assailants ambushed the bus at Lango la Simba area in Nyongoro, Witu division in Lamu County.

Area chief, the attackers got into the bus after but later alighted after realizing almost all the passengers were muslims telling them ‘you are not who we wanted’.

However, the Lamu County Commander Essantus Kiura who confirmed the incident refuted the chief’s claims as he explained that the driver gained courage and drove the ill-fated bus to the Nyarongo GSU camp.

Kiura complained that the area has poor network thus hindering communication between officers on the ground besides the bad area terrain that is a challenge in pursuing the attackers.
