Over ten killed in two suicide bombs in Mogadishu

At least 10 people have been killed and more than others wounded when two suicide attackers detonated an explosives-laden vehicles at a security checkpoint and near the perimeter wall of Peace Hotel Which IGAD summit last year.

The first explosion killed the soldiers at the checkpoint and blew roofs off nearby building.

The second blast left a scene of destruction with rubble strewn across the road and some nearby houses collapsed and several people including two children away from where the explosion happened were killed shrapnel.

A father whose six children were admitted at Madina Hospital said two of his children were killed by shrapnel that penetrated his iron-Sheet house near the checkpoint.

“I lost two children while other six were admitted to Madina Hospital,” the bereaved father said.

Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement issued by pro-AlShabaab Andulus Radio.

“The Mujahedeen fighters carried out two suicide attacks one of them targeting a checkpoint alongside the road to Halane,” said the group adding “This was to clear the way for another bomber who was driving a truck which targeted Peace Hotel.”

The Shabaab is fighting to overthrow the internationally backed government in Mogadishu and regularly uses suicide bombers against government, military and civilians.

Mogadishu has seen a number of bomb attacks at hotels and military checkpoints, government institution and other Public places.
