Tens of Somali students arrested in Cyprus

Tens of Somali citizens who went Cyprus to pursue further education have been arrested in that Island, sources say.

The police of rich Cyprus in the eastern Mediterranean have apprehended over 20 Somali students who went there to pursue education after they suspected these students being migrants from somalia.

Nasro Yussuf Hassan, one of the students detained in Cyprus told Goobjoog News that before they left Somalia for Cyprus they sent application to one of the universities in Cyprus and were given admission to join the university.

Nasro said they are over 20 students including five female students who all travelled from two towns, Mogadishu and Hargeissa in Somalia.

“We given the green light to join the university by the administration but immediately we landed at Cyprus airport the police told us that we cannot precede head to the university” she said.

She added “we called the administration of the university and they informed us that they cannot meet with us until we are cleared by the police”

She pointed out that they do not get food and water in the cell.

Finally Nasro called upon somali federal government to intervene the situatrion.
