Three Al-Shabaab operatives arrested for trying to smuggle bombs into Mogadishu

GOOBJOOG NEWS|LOWER SHABELLE : Three Al-Shabaab suspects have been nabbed in a security operation carried out by Somali security forces in Afgoye town of Lower Shabelle region.

A police officer in the security operation confirmed that the suspects were on their way to Mogadishu when police pounced on them and were later taken to the Somali capital.

According to the officer, the three had been on the police trail for a while as they were believed to have been smuggling improvised explosive devices into Mogadishu.

The arrest comes a week after Somali intelligence foiled a suicide attack by the terror group after seizing explosives at Elasha Biyaha area in the outskirts of Mogadishu which the militants planned to carry out an attack in the capital, Mogadishu.

Only yesterday afternoon, a landmine blast killed at least two people and injured two others in Afgoye after Al-Shabaab set a bomb in the area.

The blast took place in the Hawa Taako neighborhood of Afgoye district and is the second bomb blast in a week in southwestern Somalia.
