Three confirmed dead after bus swept away by flash floods in Mandera

Three people have been confirmed dead after a Nairobi-bound bus from Mandera county was swept by torrential floods while attempting to cross a seasonal river bed Thursday morning.
Makkah bus was swept away at Gadudia,25 kilometers from Mandera.
Area County Commissioner Alex Ole Nkoyo confirmed that three people died in the incident. The Kenya Red Cross had said that 42 people were rescued after the bus which was carrying 60 passengers was swept away.
“Upon seeing the flood, the driver estimated that he can still cross over but the flood was too strong the vehicle was swept off the road and got stuck at a rocky surface 15 meters away.
“After it came to a complete stop, there was a stampede to the windows and doors for exist and in the process one person drowned,” a survivor told The Star on phone.
One of the bodies was reportedly found at a settlement called Aresa near the scene.
Officials from the Kenya Red Cross are still trying to rescue more people.
