Two killed in mortar shell attack near Villa Somalia

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: At least two people were killed and six others injured following a mortar shell attack that hit a residential area near the presidential palace in Mogadishu.

Residents confirmed to Goobjoog News that one of the shells hit a family house killing two women. Six people among them  children were injured the sources said.
Several mortar shells hit residential houses within Godka-Jillow prison which is barely three hundred metres away from Villa Somalia. Unverified reports indicate that some correctional officers within the prison fell victim to the early afternoon attack.
The attack comes amid rising tensions in Mogadishu following the unilateral extension of Mohamed Farmaajo’s term in office.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
