Timeline: prime minister Omar crosses over Two months of impasse

17th December, 2014: The President of Somalia Hassan sheikh Mohamud has appointed former diplomat of Somalia to US, Omar Abdirashid Ali Shama’arke as the new prime minister of Somalia .
22nd December, 2014: Somali parliamentary caucus comprising of over 100 parliamentarians, had welcomed the appointment of Prime Minister Omar and pledged that would give vote of confidence to the premier.

24th December, 2014: The federal parliament of Somalia approved the newly appointed prime minister over overwhelmingly.

25th December, 2014: In a well organized handing over ceremony held at Villa Somalia, Prime Minister Omar Abdirshid was officially handed over the premier’s office.

3rd January, 2015: The PM took meeting with AU special envoy to Somalia Maman S. Sidikou at his office in Mogadishu. They shade light on wide range issues including the security stabilization in the nation, the support of African Union and the operations of African peace keeping mission in Somalia.

12th January, 2015: His excellence Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid announced new 58 cabinet members comprising of a deputy prime minister, 24 ministers, 9 state ministers and 25 assistant ministers.

13th January, 2015: The prime minister submitted latter to parliament urging the legislature to postpone the date scheduled his government to appear before the house members which the parliament rejected on two days late. The prime minister dissolved his cabinet after he faced opposition from the majority of the parliamentarians.

17th January, 2015: The lawmakers to cast vote for the request of the premier, as to be given 14 days to be able to appoint new cabinet.
Subsequent to the votes the speaker enounced the results, 190 MPs voted in favour of the prime minister’s request, 10 rejected while 2 abstained therefore Prime Minister Abdirashid was granted two weeks to appoint new cabinet.

27th January, 2015: Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid had appointed twenty ministers of his cabinet members.

31st January, 2015: The prime minister of Somalia Omar Abdirashid who appeared before the MPs, has urged the parliamentarians to allow him ten days complete his government.
After long debate the speaker ordered the lawmakers to cast vote for the request of the premier as to be given ten days to be able to complete his cabinet.
Subsequent to the casting of the vote, the speaker enounced the results, 139 MPs voted in favour of the prime minister’s request, 47 rejected while 4 abstained therefore Prime Minister Abdirashid was granted ten days to complete cabinet.

5th February, 2015: the premier announced his third lined up of cabinet members comprising of 26 ministers. 14 state minister and 26 assistant ministers.

8th February, 2015: Itus oo Itaabsii, a Somali parliamentary caucus has commended the newly announced cabinet and pledged that they would give vote confidence to the government of Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid.

9th February, 2015: Somali lawmakers approved the new cabinet proposed by prime minister, ending a two-month standoff.
