Trump ban effect hits former President Mohamud

The former President failed to secure a visa to the US following the coming into force last December of the Trump ban on individuals from six Muslim countries which include Somalia

Former President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has become the country’s most high profile individual to be hit by the US ban on individuals from six Muslim countries.

The former President who was to make a key note speech at the Harvard’s African Development Conference in the US failed to secure a visa in what the organisers of the event said was as a result of the ban.

“We regret to share that H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was denied visa issuance by the U.S. Consulate in Somalia under Executive Order 13769, Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States,” World Affairs Council of Maine said in a Facebook post.

President Hassan is therefore unable to present as Keynote Speaker at Harvard’s African Development Conference this weekend or at the World Affairs Council’s event on Tuesday, statement read in part.

The US Supreme Court in December gave a green light for the Trump administration to effect the ban after it face several setbacks from Federal Courts which had declared it unconstitutional.

President Mohamud, who is the eight President of Somalia was to speak on the topic , Somalia the Crossroads: Opportunities + Challenges Post-Civil War.
