Turkish Humanitarian Aid Ship Departs to Somalia

Storyline:National News

A Turkish ship carrying 13,000 tons of humanitarian aid left Mersin town located in Southern Turkey to Somalia.

The government was not just helping with humanitarian aid but “hopes to start development projects” says Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Veysi Kaynak at the farewell ceremony.

“There will be trained security personnel that will fight terror,” Kaynak added.

The aid was coordinated jointly by Turkish Red Crescent, Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).

Somalia is facing severe famine not seen for more than a decade which claimed human lives and large scale of livestock, a backbone livelihood for the pastoralists who make up 60% of the population.
