Twin vehicle borne explosions rock Mogadishu

Twin explosions have this evening rocked Mogadishu with casualties yet to be established but medical sources have told Goobjoog News several injured people and the dead have been ferried to various hospitals in the city.

The first explosion went off at around 6.30 pm local time near the National Intelligence headquarters in KM Zero with initial reports that the Upper House buildings which is also situated in the same area was partly damaged. Sources said a vehicle loaded with explosives went off at a police check point in the area.

At least 15 minutes later the second blast happened in Sayidka hotel area near the Lower House buildings.

Aamin Ambulance Director Dr. Abdirahman Abdikadir told Goobjoog News there were several casualties but could not put a figure. “I cannot give you a number now but we have carried injured and dead people to hospitals. There were bodies lying all over the scene,” said Dr. Abdikadir.

Heavy gunfire could be heard around the city.

The explosions come barely a day after Security Minister Mohamed Islow told cabinet there was a minivan loaded with explosives within the city.
