Two AU soldiers killed in fighting between AMISOM troops and Al-Shabab fighters

At least two soldiers were killed and several others injured in fighting between Kenyan soldiers and Al-Shabaab fighters barely a day after the militant group seized control of an AU base in El-Adde and reportedly killed more than 60 Kenyan soldiers, Goobjoog News reports.

The fighting flared up after Al-Shabaab ambushed a Kenyan military convoy heading to El-Adde town which is now under the control of Al-Shabaab fighters who seized the town on Friday.

Goobjoog News Correspondent in the area says a Kenyan military car caught fire after it was hit by Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG).

The move came only a day after Al-Shabaab fighters rammed a suicide car bomb into an African Union army base early Friday and stormed inside where the group claimed to have killed 63 soldiers and seized weapons.

Kenya contributes more than 4,000 troops to the 22,000-strong AU force that is in Somalia helping the UN-backed government battle al-Shabab, which is part of al-Qaeda.

Al-Shabab was ousted from the capital, Mogadishu, in August 2011, but still has a presence in large areas of southern Somalia and often stages attacks across the country.

In June last year, Al-Shabab fighters killed dozens of Burundian soldiers when they overran an AMISOM outpost northwest of the capital.
