Two journalists arrested for covering jail riot in Hargeisa handed jail terms

GOOBJOOG NEWS|HARGEISA: Two journalists who were arrested while covering a prison riot in Hargeisa were today sentenced to one year and four months by a court in the Somaliland capital.

The Marodi-Jeeh regional court sentenced the owner of MM TV Mohamed Abdi Ilig and Horn Cable reporter Abdijibar Mohamed to 16 months in jail for their coverage of the riot in Hargeisa central prison in mid-April.

The court however ordered the release of another journalist, Abdirahman Indha Ade who has also been arrested while covering the incident.

Several journalists in Somaliland have faced state repression in recent months following their government of activities relating to government institutions.
