GOOBJOOG NEWS/MOGADISHU: Police spokesman Abdifatah Aden Hassan has issued a statement on the recent attack in the Somali capital, after Al-Shabaab unleashed terror on Mogadishu and its outskirts at the dead of the night.

The Police spokesman said the first attack which took place at around 12:51 midnight, began with an improvised explosive device (IED) attack on a police station in Kahda district in Benadir region.

Heavy fighting ensued between government forces and the assailants inside the Kahda police station for about an hour, after which the government forces were able to repulse them.

Police spokesman Abdifatah Aden said that minutes later, after the attack at the Kahda police post, a second car bomb exploded in Dar es Salaam neighborhood, killing two girls and causing injuries to 16 others, including three police and military officers.

The recent incident came amid accusations leveled at the Federal Government for deploying hundreds of troops to some Federal Member States to steer and rig elections, while leaving the Somali People at the mercy of the Al-Qaeda terror group.

Spokesman Abdifatah Aden promised members of the public that the government was on high alert, and was doing everything possible to ensure that security is beefed up in the country.
