Storyline:National News

Two civilians have been killed in Southern Somalia on Sunday night when a volley of mortar shells landed residential houses in Hudur town, witnesses said.

The two dead were from same family. A girl and her uncle were killed at once while the father of the family sustained injuries.

“A girl and a man from same family were killed in centre of the town and several others were wounded including the father of the girl” said eyewitness in Hudur.

He said that several rounds of mortar shells landed in different parts of the town.

Ali Kulmiye, another resident said several motor shells landed in the town.

“Mortar rounds landed inside the town, so far we heard that the shells killed over two people and injured. Four members,” he said.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. But it has hallmarks of similar mortar attacks frequently carried out in the city by Al-Shabaab.

The government ruling towns are regularly targeted by Al-Shabaab, which is fighting to overthrow the internationally-backed government.
