U.S-Africa Leaders Summit “Investing in the Next Generation”

MerekanPresident Obama welcomed leaders from across the African continent to Washington, D.C., for the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit taking place August 4-6. This Summit is strengthening ties between the United States and African nations on individual and regional levels.

At its core, the Summit is about fostering stronger ties between the United

States and Africa and serves as a demonstration of our deep partnership with and commitment to the region.

The first day of the Summit, August 4th, included participation by Secretary John Kerry and Vice President Joseph Biden and featured discussions on critical issues including the Civil Society and Open Government; the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA); Investing in Women, Peace and Prosperity; Combating Wildlife Trafficking; and Resilience and Food Security in a Changing Climate.
