UAE releases 10 men serving life for hijacking ship

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: 10 Somali men who had been handed life sentences in the United Arab Emirates after they were found guilty of hijacking an oil ship on April 1, 2011 have been released and are currently in Mogadishu.

The men were eligible for release after serving for a minimum of 25yrs, but their transfer was made possible after a visit to Abu Dhabi by the Somali Prime Minister on May 20.

A federal criminal court in Abu Dhabi found the 10 guilty on multiple charges connected to the hijacking of the ship in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Oman.

Below are the names of the 10 men transferred by UAE to Somalia:

  10. Ahmed Mohamed Abdullah Dahleya
