Uganda host UN Summit on refugee crisis

Due to refugee disaster mostly in Africa, Uganda is preparing to host a UN Summit titled “Solidarity Summit” in order to garner support for refugees and host countries in the forms of endowment, investment and creative programs.

Uganda is home to about 1.25 million which makes the country to be the world’s fastest growing refugee emergency.

The summit which opens today Thursday will take a period of two days in light of the exodus of people running away from violence, social and political instability in South Sudan.

The event was jointly organized by Uganda’s President Museveni and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and it’s expected to attract 30 Head of State and international donors. US$2 billion is estimated to be the budget needed to help the hosting communities over a period of 4 years.

A case in point is South Sudanese refugees who flooding into Uganda as the nearest gateway for safety. Almost 86 percent of these refugees are women and children.

A tent operated by an international organization from France known as MSF is hosting the newly refugees which are served primary with malnutrition services.

Mary Opangi who is nine months pregnant gave birth almost when she arrived at the Ugandan border. She is among the seemingly endless stream of daily arrivals that placing a huge strain on Uganda which has itself meager resources.

South Sudan is the youngest African nation formed in 2011 started falling back on its old days and internal deadly fight started in the government which is ongoing for the last four years and displaced large numbers of its citizens.

Early this month IGAD held an extra-ordinary summit in Addis Ababa mainly focusing on the human crisis in South Sudan.
