UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has arrived in Mogadishu from Nairobi in what he termed as need to focus on the famine and cholera outbreak ravaging the country.

Guterres announced on his Twitter account that he was  he had ‘Just arrived in Somalia on emergency visit to focus on famine & cholera. People are dying. The world must act now to stop this.’

His visit buttresses the call for global attention on the drought which the UN last month announced it was transitioning into a famine raising fears of more deaths six years after a famine claimed over 250,000 lives and displaced millions others in the country.

Guterres is expected to meet the President and Prime Minister who have upped efforts in the past week for response to stem the tide of drought.
