GOOBJOOG NEWS|NEW YORK: The United Nations Security Council is this afternoon set to hold its regular meeting on the situation in Somalia.

United Nations Special Representative for Somalia, James Swan, will be among officials expected to present a report to the council on the situation in Somalia.

On May 18, the UN Special Envoy to Somalia met with Somalia’s newly elected President to congratulate him on his election victory and discussed with him how the United Nations could best continue to support Somalia and its people.

The UN has been closely following the situation in Somalia, particularly security and elections which winded up on May 15, with today’s meeting set to coincide with the handover of power from ex-President Mohamed Farmaajo to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
