United Nation helps floods victims in Somalia

UN Special Representative for Somalia Ambassador James Swan said international agencies are ready to assist the flood victims in the Juba and Shabelle River.

James Swan said the UN is ready to work with the Federal Government and regional authorities to respond to the flood victims, in the other hand the World Food Program is preparing emergency helicopters to support Humanitarian Efforts in Beledweyne and other affected areas.

“I am very grateful to the UN Office for Somalia for the temporary use of helicopters to assist in the search and rescue operations for those affected by the floods,” said Ambassador James Swan.

He also said “the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and Charities is working with authorities to deliver immediate emergency aid to the people in crisis”, following the Prime Minister of the Federal Government has currently called on the international community to immediately participate in the rescue efforts in the flood-hit areas of the country.
