A commercial dhow carrying livestock from Somalia to the United Arab Emirates caught fire and burned near Bosaso, a port city in Somalia’s semi-autonomous region of Puntnland.

Mohamed Ali Hashi, Bossaso navy commander who gave exclusive interview to Goobjoog News has confirmed the incident and the damage of properties of immense value.

“The vessel which was to head to Dubai carrying more than 510 cows, 660 goats which add up 1,170 livestock were reportedly died but fortunately all crew members were saved” he said.

The blaze started in the silos area on board this morning and took dozens of fire-fighters hours to extinguish it but their effort brought no fruit.

Despite the famine ravaging Somalia’s southern regions, livestock remains a popular export to the Arab world, particularly for the upcoming Eid celebrations to mark the end of Ramadan.
