GOOBJOOG  NEWS|MOGADISHU:   A video circulating online showing a gun trotting man widely identified as an intelligence officer point a pistol at a group of female protesters in Mogadishu has sparked uproar with the opposition demanding apologies from the president over the incident.

The Council of Presidential Candidates Union said in a statement the actions of a police officer were in tandem with r4emakrs by the president in recent years and recent statements by Banaadir governor Omar Filish who called for violent action against opposition groups.

“The Somali people watched videos of youths protesting peacefully and a plain-clothed soldier firing at some ladies who were part of the protest. The ladies were then forcibly taken into custody by the police and the plain-clothed forces that shot at them,” the Council said in a statement.

The Council called on Farmaajo and PM Mohamed roble to ‘issue an apology over the heinous act perpetrated against the ladies and immediately bring the soldier to justice’.

The officer also went ahead to fire live shots at protesters. Somalis online reacted angrily over the actions of the officer.

The officer was later seen boarding a police vehicle alongside other officers. The officer is reportedly attached to the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA).
