GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: US military said Thursday it killed Al-Shabaab militants following two airtrikes in Jilib located in Lower Juba region.
The US Africa Command (AFRICOM) said in a statement the ‘strike killed terrorists who were known to play important roles in producing explosives for al-Shabaab, to include vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs).”
The strikes come barely two weeks after the Trump administration announced it is pulling out troops from Somalia in January.
Since 2018, the group has conducted an estimated 45 VBIED attacks in Mogadishu alone, collectively resulting in the death of over 400 civilians, security forces and government officials,” AFRICOM said.

AFRICOM did not however state the number of casualties or whether there were civilians affected during the air strikes.
