NAIROBI: The United States Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya has issued a terror alert warning its citizens to be extra vigilant in the wake of a deadly terror attack in the Nairobi mid last month that claimed 21 lives.

“Credible information indicates Westerners may be targeted by extremists in Nairobi, Naivasha, Nanyuki, and coastal areas of Kenya,” a statement sent by the US Embassy in Nairobi Monday read.

It adds, “STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the U.S. embassy or nearest U.S. consulate to contact you in an emergency. If you don’t have Internet access, enroll directly with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.”

Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) offers security updates.

The US further advised Kenyan citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity especially in public spaces such as malls and places of worship.

The U.S. Embassy reminds the public of the continued need for heightened vigilance throughout Kenya, especially in public spaces such as shopping malls, hotels, and places of worship.

The latest alert comes a few weeks after an attack killed 21 people in the Kenyan capital – raising fears that the Somalia based Al-Shabaab terror group, which claimed responsibility could carry out more such attacks.
