Waare names election team ahead of polls in October

An 11 member committee was Saturday appointed by HirShabelle President Mohamed Waare to conduct the elections of the state parliament in October.

Waare announced in a notice the appointment of the committee headed by Osman Mohamed Mukhtar and deputized by Sa’id Hagar Hamaloow. The announcement comes ahead of the end of the term for the current parliament next month.

The committee will oversee the election of the 76-member assembly through the clan-based system whereby clan elders and representatives will select candidates for the vacant positions.

The MPs will subsequently elect a new president when the term of the current president ends sometime in October. Waare came into office in October 2017 following the ouster of his predecessor and founding president Abdullahi Ali Osoble mid-August the same year.

HirShabelle state was formed in October 2016 and comprises of Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions.
