Somalis agreement on the new electoral model a “watershed” moment said the top UN official in the country.

Briefing the Security Council, UN envoy to Somalia, Michael Keeting said the electoral model lies out the structure of new federal government and includes power sharing arrangement with local regional authorities

“The exciting is that increasingly politics is displacing violence as a means of resolving differences among Somalis. There is eager desire to advance and leave suffering and divisions of the past behind” said Keeting.

Nevertheless Keeting said that the security situation in the country remains a serious concern, warning of the possibility of spoiler beheaviours.

Terror attacks in the recent weeks by the Al-Shabab fighters left scores dead in an African Union military base as well public beach resort.

“Security remains paramount concern, too many civilians and too many soldiers are dying. Al-Shabab remains potent threat. Success in Somalia in 2016 will dependent upon managing threats notably those posed by Al-Shabab” warned the UN envoy.
