GOOBJOOG NEWS/MOGADISHU: Former president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has  called for the protection of the newly agreed electoral deal and warned against any attempts to derail it.

“The success that we are celebrating today is like an eye, the eye needs to be protected from anything that will strain it,” the former leader who is also UPD party leader said.  “This success can be destroyed by one reckless remark made by one leader, it can also be safeguarded by a positive remark by one leader that will take this country to where we need it to be.”
He also paid tribute to all those who participated jn the electoral process and notably struct a conciliatory note in thanking his successor President Mohamed Farmaajo alongside the PM, regional government presidents and the Council of Presidential Candidates.
Prior to the recent talks, the opposition had had a bitter fall out with Farmaajo and even accused him of attempts to assassinate two of it key figures- Mohamud and his predecessor Sharif Sheikh Ahmed.
The outspoken former president added that the signing of the agreement marked an  ‘end to days of fear in which the Somali people didn’t know where the country was headed. ‘
“Today is a great day in history and will be recorded as another milestone of the new Somalia that is democratic,” president Mohamud said.
