Well-known peace activist killed in Beletweyne

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Unknown gunmen shot and killed a well-known intellectual and leading peace activist in Beletweyne, the capital of Hiran region, on Friday night.

Ali Moalim, who was one of the elders who selected the delegates who voted for MP Abdullahi Sambaloshe, the ex-NISA boss, in the recent elections in the town of Beletweyne, was killed by unknown persons who immediately fled the scene after executing the deed.

Friday’s assassination is the second in the town in two weeks after unknown assailants also shot and killed Abdirashid Mohamed Gedi, an electoral delegate for the HOP058 contested by Sambaloshe.

Security officials are yet to comment on the recent incident in Beletweyne, a town experiencing a worrying trend where officials involved in the election of politicians are targeted by unknown assailants.
