WHO classifies Kenya a high Ebola risk area

World Health Organization has classified Kenya as a high risk area for the deadly Ebola outbreak.

WHO at a press conference in Nairobi said Kenya is a major transport hub in the region receiving 76 flights a week making it vulnerable to Ebola.

Health Ministry however said it is not �advising Kenya Airways or any other flight from either flying to or from West Africa.

“Kenya Airways will not stop its flight to the four Ebola stricken countries despite the WHO declaring the situation an emergency,” said Kenya Airways incomin CEO Mbuvi Ngunze.

The death toll from the worst ever outbreak of Ebola has reached 1,013 after another 52 people died in the three days to Aug. 9 in three West African countries, the World Health Organization said on Monday.

The largest number of reported new deaths were in Liberia, where 29 people died, followed by 17 in Sierra Leone and six in Guinea, the WHO said in a statement on its website. The total number of cases rose to 1,848, it said.
