Mogadishu – Somali journalist Abdiweli Abdi Mohamed, known for his advocacy on behalf of marginalized groups, has released a new book shedding light on the challenges faced by people living with albinism in Somalia.

The book, titled No Marriage, No School, No Job: Living with Albinism in Somalia, documents the stigma, discrimination, and violence that many Somalis with albinism experience in their daily lives. Through powerful storytelling and first-hand testimonies, Abdiweli explores how myths and misconceptions about albinism fuel social exclusion, while also highlighting the resilience and courage of those affected.

“This book is a call to break the silence,” Abdiweli said during the launch. “People with albinism deserve love, education, work, and dignity—just like any other Somali citizen.”

In Somalia, people with albinism often face rejection in schools, difficulty finding jobs, and even barriers to marriage, with many families keeping children hidden due to fear of stigma. The book also connects Somalia’s challenges to broader issues across Africa, where people with albinism face similar discrimination and, in some countries, violent attacks.

By publishing this book, Abdiweli Abdi Mohamed hopes to spark national dialogue and push for greater inclusion, legal protection, and public awareness campaigns that can transform the lives of people with albinism.

No Marriage, No School, No Job is now available on the QaranBooks app at a price of less than one dollar, making it widely accessible to readers in Somalia and abroad.
